> DIGINOTATOR: A KINESTHETIC RECORD OF ANDEAN FLUTE TECHNIQUES

We developed a tool for recording fingerings and air pressure used by traditional andean flute players, using capacitive sensors and air flow sensors feeding an electronic interface called DIGINOTATOR, that translates signals to MIDI language into a computer. MAX/MSP software decodes and visualizes the data recorded. This allows to safeguard and reproduce ancient playing techniques that are already disappearing, and reproduce them for next generations of musicians and researchers. The music group De Tanto Lejos, in Argentina, used the kinesthetic data recorded to reproduce these flute playing techniques.

>  THE 3D ORGANOLOGIC ARCHIVE: SCANNING AND PRINTING ANCIENT ANDEAN FLUTES

We created the first 3D instrument database of andean flutes, digitizing the original flutes with high definition scanners, and being able to print the original flute at any time, anywhere, with a 3D printer, and learn to play.

>  SPACE MODELLING: A SONIC IMPULSE RESPONSE DATABASE OF ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES

Space is a main factor in andean music. The original archeological sites where ancient music was played, and the sites where acutal rituals take place, give music certain qualities that can be only understood with its specific reflections, reverbs and responses. That´s why we are creating a database of IR (impulse responses) of historical sites, measuring sonic responses for recreating different sound spaces.
